What is a vaginal estrogen cream?

Vaginal estrogen cream is applied inside the vagina with an applicator, usually nightly for a couple of weeks and then a few times a week. At low doses it treats the tissue directly: dryness, itching, painful sex, urgency and recurring urinary infections.

Low-dose vaginal creams send very little estrogen into the bloodstream. Some providers prescribe a vaginal cream at a higher dose for whole-body symptoms instead. Each listing below says which kind it is.
