Body & vaginal cream review · Winona
Updated October 2, 2026 · BestHRTCreams editorial team · We may earn a commission
Winona is one of the few menopause brands that leads with creams. It sells two of them: an Estrogen Body Cream for whole-body symptoms and a Vaginal Estrogen Cream for local ones. Each starts at $89 a month, there’s no membership fee, and doctor access is included. Each product is billed on its own, though, so the total depends on how many you’re prescribed.

Many women only need one of the two. If hot flashes and sleep are the problem, the body cream (plus progesterone if you have a uterus) is the usual route. If dryness or painful sex is the main issue, the low-dose vaginal cream may be enough. Our guide to HRT cream types walks through that choice.
What “Bi-est” means, and why it matters
Bi-est is a compounded blend of two estrogens. Estradiol (E2) is the main estrogen your ovaries made before menopause, and it is the hormone behind most of the clinical evidence for HRT. Estriol (E3) is a weaker estrogen. No FDA-approved U.S. product contains estriol, so it is available only in compounded formulas. The FDA notes that compounded drugs are not reviewed for safety or effectiveness. In practice, a Bi-est cream delivers less estradiol per pump than a pure estradiol cream at the same total strength, and your Winona doctor adjusts the dose to your symptoms.
How to apply the body cream
- Use a pea-sized amount, typically 2 pumps, once a day at a consistent time.
- Apply to clean, dry, hair-free skin: inner thighs, forearms, abdomen or the backs of the knees. Avoid the face and breasts.
- Let it absorb for about 30 minutes before covering the area or letting skin touch other people or pets.
- If you miss a dose, apply it when you remember, unless your next dose is close.
- The airless pump can make the bottle look partly empty; that is normal.
Using the vaginal cream
The vaginal cream comes with an applicator. A typical regimen is daily for the first few weeks, then a few times a week to maintain. Winona notes that trace amounts can transfer to a partner during sex. MedlinePlus has general safety information on vaginal estrogen.
What a Winona regimen really costs
| Regimen | Monthly cost |
|---|---|
| Vaginal cream only | From $89 |
| Body cream only (no uterus) | From $89 |
| Body cream + progesterone | From $89, plus progesterone billed separately |
| Body cream + vaginal cream | From $178, plus progesterone if needed |
Our arithmetic from Winona’s published “from” prices. Your price depends on what your doctor prescribes.
Each cream on its own is fairly priced. A full regimen costs more than an all-in-one plan. Nuvella, for example, can bundle an estradiol cream, vaginal estradiol and progesterone for one price; see our Nuvella HRT cream review. For a cheaper single estradiol cream with free progesterone, read the Effecty estradiol cream review. All prices are side by side in the HRT cream cost guide.
How long it takes
- Sleep and mood: within a few weeks, according to Winona.
- Hot flashes and night sweats: up to three months of consistent daily use.
- Vaginal dryness and itching: a few weeks, with full benefit at 8–12 weeks.
- Getting started: a 24-hour review, 1–3 business days for the pharmacy and 1–3 days of shipping, so about five business days in total. Faster shipping costs extra.
Pros and cons
✓ What we like
- ✓Cream-led brand with a body cream and a vaginal cream
- ✓No membership fee: unlimited doctor messaging is included in the cream price
- ✓Dose adjustments and shipping included
- ✓HSA/FSA eligible
⚠️ What to watch
- •Each product is billed separately, so two creams plus progesterone add up
- •Body cream is Bi-est (half estriol), which has less clinical evidence than estradiol alone
- •Compounded, not FDA-approved as a finished product
Who Winona is for
Winona suits women who know they want a cream and need just one product, either the body cream or the vaginal cream. It also suits anyone who likes unlimited access to a named doctor without a membership. It is a weaker fit if you need several products at once, or if you would rather use pure estradiol than a Bi-est blend. Compare every option in our HRT cream comparison.
Editorial verdict
Winona scores 8.13. It is a genuine cream specialist, with clear $89 starting prices, no membership and doctor access included. It ranks below the bundled programs because its prices are per product and its body cream is Bi-est rather than estradiol alone.
Winona HRT cream: frequently asked questions
Prices and product details were taken from Winona’s product pages in October 2026 and may change. Both creams require a prescription after an online medical evaluation. They are compounded by state-licensed pharmacies and are not FDA-approved finished products. Estrogen products carry boxed warnings about stroke, blood clots, dementia and certain cancers. Talk to a clinician about any history of clots, stroke, heart or liver disease, unexplained bleeding or hormone-sensitive cancer, and seek urgent care for chest pain, leg swelling or a sudden severe headache.
